4 of the Best Cocktails for Pickle(ball) Lovers
We love a good post-game cocktail. Heck, during the right kind of tournament, we’ve even been known to have a pre-game cocktail. So what started out as a joke, is now a bull-blown enjoyable investigation for us. What kind of cocktails can you make with pickle juice in them? And more importantly, are they any good?
1) THE PICKLE BACK
In terms of using pickle juice in beverages, this is the classic. The O.G. (Though, it was only invented in 2006.) We love it for the taste. And we love it because it’s extremely simple.
A shot of whiskey.
Followed by a shot of pickle juice.
That’s it. We like a bourbon whiskey, but really any will do. Jameson is a popular pour for a Pickle Back. PRO TIP: get both shots as cold as you can and don’t hesitate. Works great with vodka, tequila, or gin, too!
2) THE PICKLE VODKA MARTINI
Dirty? Shaken? Stirred? How about pickled? The Pickle Martini is an easy twist on a classic. It’s spirit-forward but using pickle juice instead of olive juice is a subtle way to mix it up for classy pickleball soirees.
2.5 ounces of vodka (or gin, but we think it works best with vodka)
.5 ounces of dry vermouth (though, if you don’t have it, don’t worry about)
.5ish ounces of pickle juice (really, you can use however little or much you want - full ounce for “dirty”)
Simply add all the ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake it up and pour into a fresh glass. Bonus points for putting your glass in the freezer to chill it before you make it. Then, garnish with a pickle.
3) THE DILL PICKLE BLOODY MARY
You think we’re just going to tell you to add some pickle juice to your Bloody Mary? Think again! Pickle juice ice cubes. BRILLIANT! It avoids getting your Bloody all watery. And it adds a nice depth of flavor. You can really add that hack to any Bloody Mary recipe you already love. But check out the video below for all the details.
4) THE PICKLE JUICE WHISKEY SOUR
Full disclosure. We haven’t tried this one yet. It’s probably the boldest on the list in terms of how much you really have to like pickle juice for it to work. But it’s on our next up list to try. So we figured we’d share. Check out the video below for how to make it. And we’ll see you on the other side!
