The PPA Hyundai Masters Pickleball Tournament Results
The Hyundai Masters PPA started Thursday in La Quinta, California and wrapped up with Championship Sunday on Fox Sports 2. Here are the results from the weekend:
Thursday: Pro Singles
In Pro Men's Singles, we had two new names in the semi finals. On the top half of the bracket, it was world #1 Ben Johns vs. Ryan Sherry. Sherry had a big win over JW Johnson in the quarterfinals to advance to the semis. On the bottom half of the bracket, it was Tyson McGuffin vs. Thomas Wilson. Wilson had two big wins over Jay Devilliers and Frank Anthony Davis. Ben Johns and Tyson McGuffin advanced to Championship Sunday. JW Johnson defeated Frank Anthony Davis in the consolation bracket to take home the bronze medal.
In Pro Women’s Singles, it was the top 4 seeds in the semi finals. To advance to Championship Sunday, Lea Jansen defeated Catherine Parenteau and Anna Leigh Waters defeated Callie Smith. In the consolation bracket, Catherine Parenteau took bronze by a win over Callie Smith.
Friday: Mixed Doubles
On mixed doubles day, it was Matt Wright / Lucy Kovalova and Riley Newman / Lindsey Newman advancing to Championship Sunday.
Wright / Kovalova advanced to Championship Sunday by defeating Callan Dawson / Irena Tereschenko, Kyle Yates / Leigh Waters, and Julian Arnold / Lauren Stratman in the semi finals.
Riley Newman / Lindsey Newman advanced to Championship Sunday by defeating Erik Lange / Vivienne David, Tyler Loong / Catherine Parenteau, and Ben Johns / Simone Jardim in the semi finals.
The mother daughter duo met in the bronze medal match where Tyson McGuffin / Anna Leigh Waters defeated Kyle Yates / Leigh Waters.
Saturday: Mens/Womens Doubles
In Pro Men’s Doubles, Matt Wright / Ben Johns and Riley Newman / Tyson McGuffin advanced to Championship Sunday.
Matt Wright / Ben Johns advanced to Championship Sunday with wins over Chuck Taylor / Tyler Wren, Rob Nunnery / JW Johnson and Spencer Smith / Tyler Loong in the semi finals.
Riley Newman / Tyson McGuffin advanced to Championship Sunday with wins over Johnny Goldberg / Thomas Wilson, Callan Dawson / AJ Koller, and Dekel Bar / Erik Lange in the semi finals
Dekel Bar / Erik Lange defeated Callan Dawson / AJ Koller in the bronze medal match.
In Pro Women’s Doubles, Catherine Parenteau / Jessie Irvine and Irena Tereschenko / Lauren Stratman advanced to Championship Sunday.
