Practice Putting Top-spin on the Pickleball with This Device
One of the things I lack in Pickleball coming from a racquetball background is top spin. In racquetball the goal is to hit the ball as low to the front wall as possible so slice or under spin keeps the ball low. When I played tennis for a couple of years the only way I could hit top spin was by having an extreme grip. The problem in Pickleball is that it is best not to modify how you grip the paddle because the game moves so fast and you also do not want to give anything away when people see you changing your grip. So in a recent Pickleball Fire podcast, Coach Andy Gutierrez mentioned a device which can help you learn to hit top spin.
It is called the TopspinPro and it was originally designed for tennis but it can still help us Pickleball players. And in fact there are rumors that they are developing a similar device for Pickleball but it has not come to market yet. The great thing about the TopspinPro is that you do not need to be on the court to use it. You can set it up in your house or garage because the ball is on a spindle. What the device helps you do is to learn how to brush up on the ball as it includes a screen which provides the correct angle to maximize top spin off your paddle. You can even adjust the height of the TopspinPro so it can accommodate you regardless of your size.
I have a friend who purchased the TopspinPro to use when he was injured and he says it really works. The reviews also confirm this on Amazon with a 4.4 stars rating. The TopspinPro is $149 if you buy it through their website. You can also purchase the TopspinPro on Amazon, but currently it costs more to do so and they only have used ones so I definitely recommend going to TopspinPro directly.
Finally, there is another option which I saw on Amazon. Its called Topspin Solution and it can also be used to help with top spin. The ball is also on a spindle and the height is adjustable but what it doesn't have is a screen to help provide the correct angle for top spin. Still it has decent reviews including one from a Pickleball player to who liked the training aid. The cost for Topspin Solution is $125 on Amazon.
