3 Tips for Finding the Perfect Pickleball Paddle

3 Tips for Finding the Perfect Pickleball Paddle

We’re partnering with Baddle, a new pickleball brand that’s launching a line of paddles, to bring you the latest considerations for your next paddle. Baddle paddles are USAPA-approved, so we learned a thing or two after talking to them, and we wanted to share some insight. Plus, a special offer for our readers.

  1. WEIGHT

Weight is a great place to start when choosing a new paddle. Most paddles are somewhere between 6-9 oz. But you can find even heavier ones up to 12-14 oz. There’s no correct answer here. It all depends on your playing style and fitness preferences. In short, lighter paddles allow for easy maneuverability and ball control, while heavier paddles allow for more power. So think about your playing style and what you need. If you catch yourself swinging too hard for extra umph, you may want to try a heavier paddle. If you find your arm and elbow sore after a match, you may want a lighter paddle. If you’re not sure, start with a mid-weight. Around 8oz.

  2. GRIP

The handle of the paddle is your next stop. Most grips are around 4 inches in circumference, which is a great place to start if you’re unsure of what size you need. From there, it’s not too complicated. If you have larger hands, up the circumference by a quarter- or half- inch.

Length can also come into play. Generally speaking, the smaller the handle and grip, the more opportunity for wrist action and ball spin. Larger grips help your stroke keep stable.

Baddle will offer a variety of grips. From their standard 4-inch circumference and 5-inch length to their XT grip that adds a quarter-inch to the length, you’ll be able to find a grip that’s just right for you.

  3. MATERIAL

The last thing you want to consider is what your paddle is made of. Baddle uses the the latest tech on the market today. Graphite surface plates and a polymer honeycomb core. This makes the paddles lighter and also allows for the quickest action off the face of the paddle.

While it may sound like a strange consideration, the polymer honeycomb core is considered to be the quietest paddle, which makes it a great option for gated communities and shared spaces.

  4. BONUS TIP

For us, style is worth some bonus points. We love the spirit of the game, and Baddle has some designs that certainly represent our love for pickleball. And right now, Baddle is running a special giveaway for our readers. You can win a Baddle Paddle as well as a custom Paddle Cover with your name on it.
